Skimmers

Libellulidae are a large family with some of Ohio’s most common dragonflies.

With the exception of the Autumn Meadowhawk, readily identifiable by its brown legs, the photographic identification of Ohio’s other Meadowhawks is difficult. Try to get them in hand and get a close up photo of the hamules and terminal appendages (underside).

Swift Setwings are new to the state, but we expect them in many more counties. They hold their wings forward when resting, similar to Blue Dashers, but have black wing tips and an otherwise dark body.
