Petaltails
Ohio only has a single species of Petaluridae. The pattern of new county records suggests that it may be benefitting from Ohio’s reforestation.
Petaltail females deposit their eggs in wooded seeps, small spring-fed rivulets that may go dry during part of the year. The larvae live in the mud, or under leaves, coming out at night to feed. The males can be found sunning on the side of trees at breeding locations, waiting for females to arrive.
